In a move that signals a new era of leadership, Alsons Development and Investment Corporation (Alsons Dev) proudly announces the appointment of Miguel Rene A. Dominguez as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. This marks a pivotal moment for the company as it continues to expand its footprint in the real estate development sector.

Taking the reins from Rosie A. Dominguez, who is retiring as Executive Vice President, Miguel ensures continuity by stepping into Rosie’s comprehensive scope of responsibilities. This transition promises to uphold and build upon the legacy of excellence that has defined the company under her stewardship.

Before this new role, Dominguez served as Alsons Dev’s Director. Simultaneously, he was the Vice President for Operations at the Alcantara Group’s Agribusiness Unit, running the Philippines’ largest fully integrated aquaculture farm, value-added processing, and exports of fresh bananas and pineapples. Quite the resume, right?

Dominguez’s distinguished career spans both the government and business sectors, shaping his leadership philosophy. His professional journey began in agriculture, where he learned the value of empathy and communication. By working with people from different walks of life, he discovered the critical importance of motivating others and effectively conveying a company’s vision. This enabled him to rally everyone to work together toward a common cause.

Following his stint in agriculture, Dominguez took on a role in government when he became the Governor of Sarangani. His tenure was marked by significant achievements under the mentorship of prominent leaders such as the late Jesse Robredo. His innovative programs and initiatives during his governance were recognized nationally, earning him three presidential awards and the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM) Award for Governance and Public Service.

These experiences have molded Dominguez into a visionary leader, perfectly poised to guide Alsons Dev into a future of continued success and innovation. His rich background provides him with a robust foundation in leadership and imbues him with the empathy and strategic foresight necessary to drive the company forward.

“We must always give credit to those whose shoulders we stand on, not just professionally but also for the experiences that shaped us as individuals,” Dominguez said. “My mom Rosie’s legacy is one of utmost commitment to quality and fostering developments that emphasize family values. These guiding principles will continue to shape our future endeavors.”

Dominguez’s vision for Alsons Dev is forward-looking and ambitious. Recognizing the need to differentiate the company in a competitive market, he’s excited about expanding Alsons Dev’s focus beyond high-end developments to serve a broader market. This includes underserved segments seeking value-driven housing solutions. He’s particularly enthusiastic about providing family-centric developments where families can live safely and thrive.

In addition to being the new President and CEO of Alsons Dev, Dominguez will concurrently serve as the Director for Corporate Strategy for the Alcantara Group’s Agribusiness Unit (ABU), underscoring his versatility and the trust the organization places in his leadership capabilities.

As Dominguez steps into his new roles, his wealth of experience and visionary approach herald a new chapter for Alsons Dev and the bigger Alcantara Group, which is celebrating its 70th founding anniversary this year. With such a dynamic leader at the helm, the future looks incredibly promising for Alsons Dev and its stakeholders.

In conclusion, Miguel Rene A. Dominguez's appointment as President and CEO heralds a new, exciting era for Alsons Dev. With his diverse background and visionary approach, he is set to lead the company to even greater heights. Here’s to a future brimming with innovation, growth, and unparalleled success!

Supping Up University Development: How PPPs Are Changing the Game for SUCs

COURTESY: The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center

Welcome to a new era of infrastructure and development for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines! Recently, The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center, in collaboration with the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), organized an eye-opening capacity-building activity (CBA) titled “Introductory Course on PPP for State Universities and Colleges’ Infrastructure and Development Projects.” This shindig went down on June 20-21, 2024, at the snazzy Sequoia Hotel Manila Bay in ParaƱaque City. Buckle up as we dive into the juicy bits of this game-changing event.

The event kicked off with a bang, thanks to National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) – Investment Programming Group Undersecretary, Joseph J. Capuno. He didn't just deliver an opening speech; he set the stage for a revolution. Highlighting the significance of this effort, Capuno stated, “This effort is a significant step towards empowering SUCs to play a crucial role in infrastructure and service development for the country, specifically within the education sector.”

Now, that's a lot to chew on, but Capuno's words resonated deeply with the 300+ participants from SUCs nationwide. His enthusiasm was contagious, and it was clear that everyone was ready to dive headfirst into the world of PPPs.

Next up, the CBA sessions broke down the updated PPP concepts and institutions, diving deep into the newly enacted PPP Code of the Philippines and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR). The sessions weren’t just your run-of-the-mill lectures; they were jam-packed with crucial information.

PPP Center Deputy Executive Director Jeffrey I. Manalo and Capacity Building and Knowledge Management Service (CBKMS) Assistant Director Cyris Ann A. Ng-Santiago were the rockstar resource persons who led these sessions. They tackled key reforms introduced in the PPP Code and its IRR, including revised procedures and timelines for both solicited and unsolicited tracks for national PPP projects. SUCs are now classified as national implementing agencies under the new law, which is a biggie!

One of the standout features of this event was the active engagement and enthusiastic knowledge-sharing between participants and resource persons. The air was buzzing with excitement as attendees discussed the advantages of undertaking infrastructure and development projects through PPP, the anticipated roles of SUC officials and technical officers, and the unique challenges and opportunities that come with SUC PPP projects.

Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of Batangas State University and PASUC, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. "The government and the society are expecting more of SUCs… I am very happy to see eagerness amongst our SUCs to push forward a higher level of development in our universities which we believe PPPs can facilitate and provide for," he said. His words were a testament to the collective enthusiasm and readiness to take on new challenges.

As the event drew to a close, PPP Center’s Deputy Executive Director, Eleazer E. Ricote, delivered a closing message through Capacity Building Division Chief Agape Sem B. Comendador. Ricote's words were both encouraging and motivating. “While we acknowledge the growing pains of having this new PPP legal framework, we are also optimistic that this capacity-building activity has equipped you with the necessary basic PPP competencies to help you develop responsive, high-impact, and sustainable PPP projects,” he concluded.

The two-day event was more than just a learning experience; it was a launchpad for future collaborations. With a series of CBAs planned for 2024, there's plenty more to look forward to. It signaled the beginning of a new chapter in SUC development and highlighted the critical role that PPPs can play in transforming the educational landscape in the Philippines.

With a solid foundation laid during this CBA, SUCs are better equipped to navigate the complexities of PPP projects. The knowledge gained and the connections made during this event will undoubtedly pave the way for more successful and impactful projects in the future. So, here’s to a brighter, more developed future for our State Universities and Colleges! Cheers!
