Unveiling the Tapestry of Empowerment: The MWSS and Dumagat-Remontado's Journey

Another milestone has been reached in the enduring partnership between the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and the Indigenous People – the Dumagat-Remontado. The recent turnover event marks a revolutionary stride towards an empowered future for the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs). The intricate tapestry of collaboration weaves together diverse entities: MWSS, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tanay, and the Tanay Dumagat-Remontado Ancestral Domain Development Inc. (TANAYDRADDEVI).

On 18 January 2024, the DAR Covered Court in Brgy. Samplaco, Tanay, Rizal, buzzed with activity as the Tanay LGU and TANAYDRADDEVI celebrated the turnover of service vehicles, livelihood funds, and solar panels. This ceremony, decorated with unified aspirations envisioned under the theme “Sasakyan – Sagip Buhay, Dagdag Pangkabuhayan ng Pegtaanan,” is proof of a solid partnership's commitment to actualizing a developed community for the IPs.

This initiative is a crystallization of the partners' dedication to answering the call for progress. Service vehicles will enhance mobility and accessibility, livelihood funds will ignite economic activity, and solar panels promise a sustainable future. Beyond vehicles and funds, this event cultivates hope and a path towards steadfast self-sufficiency for the Dumagat-Remontado community.

The distribution of solar panels is a pivotal step in ensuring that the Dumagat-Remontado are equipped with energy solutions that respect and incorporate their affinity with the environment. This adoption not only promises a greener tomorrow but also lays down a framework for energy independence.

Significantly, this outreach extends its benefits to women, elders, and the youth. By targeting these essential demographics within the IP community, MWSS and its partners reinforce their commitment to inclusive growth and gender development.

The turnover is a crown on the eight-year effort to uphold the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) process embedded in the actualization of significant MWSS water security projects. Each initiative follows the strict guidelines of the IPRA, under the watchful eye of the NCIP, ensuring that the IPs' voices resound in every decision made on their behalf.

The Community Resources Development Plans (CRDPs) carved by the Dumagat-Remontado demonstrate a living example of self-determination. These plans are proof of their transparent collective decision-making and undeterred efforts in shaping a future that resonates with their ancestral identity.

The service vehicle turnover is not an end, but a milestone in the continuous narrative of empowerment. MWSS and its partners pledge to continue their support across various aspects of Indigenous community development.

Allocation of funds for livelihood presents the Dumagat-Remontado with a canvas to paint their enterprise dreams. It is an investment in their inherent entrepreneurial spirit, ensuring that each individual has the means to contribute to community prosperity.

In conclusion, this event is a testament to the strong fabric of partnership interlaced between MWSS, NCIP, LGU of Tanay, and TANAYDRADDEVI. It is a covenant renewed, pledging unwavering support for the flourishing future of the Dumagat-Remontado ICCs/IPs.

Witness a revolutionary partnership unfold as MWSS, NCIP, LGU of Tanay, and TANAYDRADDEVI empower Dumagat-Remontado IPs with vehicles, funds, and sustainable energy. A vivid realization of community collaboration.
