A significant journey is about to unfold in the Philippine export industry. A Brown Co., a renowned industry player, announced on Thursday that its subsidiary, Irradiation Solutions Inc. (ISI), is on the brink of inaugurating the nation's first-ever e-beam and cold storage facility in Tanay, Rizal. This P700-million marvel, currently in the equipment installation and commissioning phase, is set to commence commercial operations in March.
Despite the delays prompted by unforeseen weather conditions and supply chain disruptions, ISI President Paul B. Juat expressed his unwavering optimism towards the target commercial operation launch. He spoke highly of his team's resilience, their dedication and commitment to the project, which kept them on track amidst adversity.
The facility heralds a new era for the Philippine fruit and fisheries sector, known for its struggles in complying with demanding international standards of product quality and safety. With the capacity to treat 20,000 tons of food products and medical devices annually, this project is poised to amplify the Philippines’ export capabilities significantly.
The facility employs electron beam, or e-beam, technology, a cost-effective and safe method for treating goods. This technology, revered for its environmental friendliness, leaves zero chemical residues and is scientifically proven effective in decontaminating food and sterilizing medical equipment.
ISI boasts that this technology ensures high product throughput and serves as a sustainable alternative to traditional heat and chemical treatments. It aligns with ISI’s vision of becoming a cornerstone of the Philippine economy, designed to streamline the operations of local businesses and ensure product compliance with international export requirements.
The upcoming operational phase of the facility marks a significant milestone for A Brown and ISI. The company's Chairman, Walter Brown, expressed his anticipation and excitement. He emphasized that the facility was not merely a technological investment, but a strategic investment in the Philippine economy and its people.
A Brown reported a 13% increase in its net income from January to September 2023, which rose to P248.7 million from the P220.27 million recorded in 2022. Revenue streams from real estate sales, sale of agricultural goods, and water service income reached P329.1 million, marking a 9-percent growth from the P302.62 million posted in 2022.
The completion of the e-beam facility projects a promising future for A Brown and the Philippine export industry. It reflects the company's unfaltering commitment to empowering local businesses and boosting the nation's economy.
The story of A Brown and ISI's groundbreaking project is a testament to their pioneering spirit. Their vision and relentless drive have resulted in an innovative solution that will significantly impact the country's export capabilities and the local economy.
This venture serves as a beacon of hope for the country's fruit and fisheries sector, promising a future of increased export opportunities and adherence to international standards of quality and safety. It's a step towards a brighter tomorrow, where the Philippines stands as a formidable player in the global market.
