In the digital era, love has found a new playground - the internet. However, this playground sometimes turns into a hunting ground for manipulative predators. Converge ICT Solutions Inc., the leading Philippine fiber broadband provider, has partnered with the Department of Information and Communication Technology – Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (DICT-CICC) and Scam Watch Pilipinas to combat the rising menace of cyber 'love scams'.

UnMatchPH, an information awareness initiative, aims to fortify the defense against cyber 'love scams'. This campaign has gained momentum in the light of the surge in relationship-based online frauds, particularly in the Philippines.

Jay-Anne Encarnado, the dynamic Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations at Converge, has emphasized the need for digital citizens to protect their identities online. She advocates for a 'smart and safe' approach to cyberspace, especially on social media.

The CICC forms the cornerstone of this partnership, serving as the chief recipient of cybercrime reports from the public. It's alarming to note that Filipinos lose about Php 1 billion every year to online scams, according to CICC.

The IARC, a collaborative effort of various agencies, works diligently to respond to cybercrime complaints and facilitate the recovery of hacked accounts. Alexander Ramos, CICC Executive Director, encourages victims to report incidences of cybercrime proactively to the IARC.

As the 'love month' commences, Converge, ScamWatch PH and their partners are underscoring the need for public vigilance against romance scams. These scams are not confined to Filipinos but also target unsuspecting foreigners.

As one of the private sector convenors of Scam Watch Philippines, Converge is dedicated to supporting Scam Watch in the dissemination of its educational materials. This collaboration marks the official kickoff of Converge's Safer Internet campaign.

The UnMatchPH campaign seeks to warn the public, especially women, about the dangers of romance scams through social media information dissemination and newspaper publications.

Scam Watch Pilipinas Co-Founder and Co-Lead Convenor Jocel de Guzman has noted the increasing prevalence of love scams. He urges the public to report these incidents by calling 1326, to help gather data and, when possible, mitigate the damage.

At a recent press conference, Scam Watch Pilipinas unveiled the eight most common love scam profiles. Other partners, including BPI Philippines, GoTyme Bank, and Gogolook, have expressed their support for the campaign.
