The West Zone concessionaire, Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad), has made a groundbreaking announcement. They will be channeling a whopping Php 2.7 billion into their Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management Program from 2023 to 2027. The focus of this investment will be Manila City, where the water loss is at its peak due to an aging pipe network and rampant illegal connections.
Out of the total amount, Php 2.4 billion will be directed towards pipe replacement projects, an essential step in this water conservation mission. Meanwhile, Php 151 million is earmarked for leak repairs, and the remaining Php 190 million will be utilized for network diagnostics and leak detection, among other activities.
Maynilad's Chief Operating Officer, Randolph T. Estrellado, shed light on the situation in Manila City. The oldest part of the pipe network, inherited from the government, is located in this city. To combat water losses in this area, Maynilad has already replaced 701 kilometers of old pipes since 2007.
The commendable accomplishment of pipe replacement was made possible due to the unwavering support extended by the local government of Manila. They facilitated the issuance of permits and managed traffic for pipe replacement and leak repair projects efficiently.
The Php 2.7 billion allocation for the City of Manila is a part of Maynilad's Php 16.5-billion NRW Management Program for 2023 to 2027. This program aims to further reduce water losses in the West Zone.
Maynilad, the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base, is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area.
Maynilad's service area spans across several cities in Metro Manila, as well as parts of Cavite Province, making it a significant player in the country's water management sector.
This investment is not just about water conservation; it's about improving the quality of life for millions of residents, ensuring access to clean, safe water.
Maynilad's bold move paves the way for a sustainable future, where water management and conservation become a top priority for all.
With Maynilad's investment, we stand on the cusp of a new era in water management. This is a significant step towards ensuring reliable water supply for Manila and reducing the non-revenue water losses.
