As we set our course towards the much-anticipated IFEX Philippines 2024, it's impossible to contain the excitement brewing among food enthusiasts, industry professionals, and SMEs alike. This event, aptly titled "It's a Salu-Salo!" encapsulates the essence of a grand food gathering, a celebration of the world's diverse and delectable flavors. This event, organized by The Center for International Trade Missions and Expositions (CITEM), allows the Philippines to shine as a beacon of culinary excellence, a true testament to its vibrant food culture and exceptional export capabilities.

CITEM, the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) lead promotions arm for export, has been a stalwart supporter of the country's SMEs. It has helped carve out a niche for these enterprises in the challenging, yet rewarding global food market. Through its signature program under the FOODPhilippines banner, CITEM has established a platform for local food companies to gain international recognition, connect with global buyers, and showcase their unique offerings.

The 17th edition of IFEX Philippines, slated for May 10-12, 2024 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila, promises an unforgettable gastronomic experience. This year, we anticipate a fresh influx of importers, adding to our regular community of buyers and visitors from the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Through this event, CITEM continues to strengthen the Philippines' position in the international F&B market, making it a crucial platform for global recognition and business networking.

The global food industry is experiencing a significant shift, with growing demands for healthier, sustainable, and culturally driven food options. The European Union Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (EU GSP+), along with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), has opened up opportunities for the Philippines to become a major sourcing hub for Halal-certified products. This move caters to the increasing Muslim communities within the country and across the region, augmenting the Philippines' export prospects.

Coconut products have been a significant contributor to the country's agricultural exports. With its versatility extending to coconut oil, desiccated coconut, coconut water, and more, this fruit has become a popular import in the European market. This demand is fueled by the global call for plant-based food offerings and the coconut's functional benefits.

The first half of 2023 saw Philippine durian exports to China valued at USD 1.88 million. With the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the Philippines' export-import trade efficiency is expected to increase, further strengthening the regional supply chain. The signing of the Protocol of the Phytosanitary Requirements for Export of Fresh Durians from the Philippines to China has opened doors for fresh durians in the Chinese food market.

IFEX Philippines 2024 provides a platform for over 500 participating exhibitors to connect with buyers, importers, and retailers. The event showcases a vast array of offerings, in tune with the consumer preference for nutrition-rich, culture-based, and convenient food options. The Philippines' strong supply capabilities for healthy, in-demand food ingredients like banana, cacao, coffee, coconut, mango, pineapple, and tuna are expected to benefit local exporters.

MSMEs in the Philippines have been consistent players in various food segments, strengthening the country's trade reputation as a sourcing destination for premium quality food and ingredients. As the F&B scene evolves, the race for equitable opportunities for food makers, distributors, and consumers intensifies. CITEM's initiatives have been instrumental in fostering bilateral trade relations and building a reliable network of industry partners to ensure the growth of local exhibitors.

CITEM regularly participates in overseas trade fairs, showcasing the latest offerings of Philippine companies engaged in the food industry. Its recent participation in Gulfood 2024 in Dubai is a testament to its relentless efforts to promote the country's food industry on a global scale.

Registration for buyers to IFEX Philippines 2024 is ongoing until May 05, 2024. With CITEM's commitment to developing, nurturing, and promoting MSMEs, brands, designers, and manufacturers, the Philippines continues to establish itself as a premier destination for quality export products and services. We invite you to join this gastronomic feast and immerse yourself in the rich food culture of the Philippines. Get ready to embark on a culinary journey like no other!
