Maynilad Water Services, Inc., the West Zone concessionaire, has initiated a powerful move to uplift the firefighting capabilities of Local Government Units (LGUs) within its service area this year. This step is specifically taken to enhance emergency response efforts, particularly during Fire Prevention Month.
In an endeavour to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, Maynilad is donating fire trailers to several LGUs. This action is not merely about providing equipment but is a demonstration of the company's commitment to proactively contribute to the communities it serves.
Taking a step further, Maynilad has kick-started the program by distributing five initial units of 1,000-liter capacity fire trailers, each dispatched to the cities of Caloocan, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Navotas, and Muntinlupa.
Fire trailers, designed specifically for overcrowded areas with narrow streets and alleys inaccessible to conventional fire trucks, promise rapid response to fire incidents in densely populated communities. These trailers are a revolutionary solution to fire emergencies.
The fire trailers donated by Maynilad are equipped with a 20-meter fire hose with an adjustable nozzle, solar lights, and a five-horsepower pump. This pump can boost water up to at least 70 feet, which can reach the seventh floor of a building.
Moreover, the trailers are lightweight and can easily be maneuvered by three to four persons. This makes them a practical solution for fire emergencies in challenging terrains.
Maynilad Chief Operating Officer, Randolph T. Estrellado, highlighted the necessity of these fire trailers. He emphasized that they are built specifically for densely populated areas that are difficult to reach via ordinary fire trucks and where fire can easily spread.
The inclusion of these fire trailers in the LGUs' emergency response arsenal is a proactive step towards ensuring the well-being of residents and safeguarding against potential fire incidents.
In addition to the fire trailers, Maynilad maintains over 5,000 fire hydrants spread throughout its 7,287-kilometer distribution system in the West Zone. This is another testament to Maynilad’s commitment to ensuring emergency preparedness in the regions it serves.
As the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base, Maynilad is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area. It serves various cities and provinces, ensuring reliable water service.
However, Maynilad’s role extends beyond simple water provision. By donating fire trailers, it exemplifies corporate responsibility and commitment to the communities it serves.
In collaboration with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Maynilad inspected the fire trailers prior to their turnover to the local government units in the West Zone. This inspection underlines the commitment of Maynilad to provide only the best for the communities.
Key figures from Maynilad and MWSS were present during the inspection of fire trailers. This included Maynilad Corporate Affairs and Communication Head Marie Antonette H. De Ocampo, MWSS Administrator Leonor Cleofas, Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez, and Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph T. Estrellado.
Maynilad’s donation of fire trailers to LGUs is more than an act of generosity. It is a leap towards safer communities, enhanced emergency response, and a display of corporate responsibility. It is a step towards a safer future.
While this initiative marks a significant milestone, Maynilad is poised to continue its efforts in enhancing the safety and wellbeing of the communities it serves. As a responsible corporate entity, Maynilad is dedicated to taking more such initiatives in the future to ensure a safer, better world for everyone.
