Revolutionizing Travel: The New Tramo Ramp of NAIA Expressway Unveiled

SOURCE: DPWH NCR

A momentous stride in Philippine infrastructure has just been accomplished. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAx) has unveiled its latest addition, an on-ramp situated along Tramo Boulevard in Pasay City. This significant development aims to accommodate a larger volume of motorists journeying from the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) to the country’s primary international gateway.

This new chapter in the nation's transportation story unfolds with the inauguration of the Tramo Ramp. The event was graced by the presence of several esteemed personalities instrumental in this project, including Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon S. Ang.

The inauguration of the Tramo Ramp took place on a bright Friday, March 1, 2024. It was a day marked with anticipation and excitement. The ceremony was attended by the movers and shakers of the infrastructure industry, including DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnership Services (PPPS) Maria Catalina E. Cabral, and Skyway O&M Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Rafael C. Yabut, among others.

The event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of all parties involved. It brought to light the successful partnership between the public and private sectors in the pursuit of national development.

The Tramo Ramp is an impressive structure. Stretching over 800 meters, this elevated two-lane entry point is designed to enhance the accessibility of NAIA Terminals 1 and 2 for vehicles traveling from EDSA southbound.

The new ramp is more than just a structure; it is a symbol of progress and innovation. It reflects the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of transportation in the country, making travel more convenient and efficient for everyone.

DPWH Secretary Bonoan expressed his appreciation towards SMC President Ang's passion for improving the traffic condition in Metro Manila. It is this passion that has led to the realization of the Tramo Ramp, a project that will significantly contribute to the demand for a more efficient travel at the NAIA-Skyway Loop through the NAIAx.

The completion of the Tramo Ramp exceeded expectations. Originally, it was anticipated that it would take 15 years for the vehicular volume to surpass the capacity of the expressway. However, in just two to three years, the ramp has already contributed to meeting the demand for more efficient travel, surpassing its initial expectations.

Prior to the ceremonial ribbon cutting, Secretary Bonoan and President Ang inspected parts of the NAIAx Tramo Ramp. This gave them an opportunity to discuss ongoing projects and future plans for the entire 12.65-kilometer stretch of NAIAx, as well as other road connectivity initiatives in Northern Luzon.

SMC President Ang revealed ambitious plans for the future. These include constructing another NAIAx off-ramp to improve mobility at NAIA Terminal 3, the possible addition of three more expressway lanes going to and from the same terminal, and the expansion of NAIAx's current five lanes to six.

The inauguration of the Tramo Ramp is a significant milestone in the country's transportation sector. It is a step forward towards progress, a testament to the potential of public-private partnerships in driving national development.

The journey doesn't end with the Tramo Ramp. With plans for more improvements and expansions in the pipeline, the road ahead is promising. The continual enhancements to the NAIAx are sure to bring about a more efficient and effective transportation system, benefiting all who travel within this bustling metropolis.

The success of the Tramo Ramp is a tribute to the collaboration between the DPWH and SMC. It is a testament to what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together towards a shared goal. The Tramo Ramp stands as a beacon of progress, illuminating the path to a brighter, more connected future.
