Setting Sail: How Cebu is Crafting the Future of Luxury Yachts

Cebu City, Philippines is making waves in the maritime world, thanks to Cebu Marine Industry Inc. (CMII). If you haven't heard, CMII, which is part of the elite Hudson Yacht Group, has dropped anchor in the West Cebu Estate (WCE) over in Balamban, Cebu. This is not just any move—it's a strategic masterstroke designed to ramp up production of cutting-edge, eco-friendly boats.

Why Cebu? Well, WCE boasts world-class facilities, a business-friendly vibe, and a workforce that's second to none. And let's face it, the Philippines, especially Cebu, has long been a maritime hub, so it’s almost poetic that luxury yachts are now a part of the scene.

Hudson Yacht Group, founded in 2009, has built quite the reputation with its innovative yacht designs and impeccable craftsmanship. Their flagship brand, HH Catamarans, is a global sensation, known for high-performance models that make you go, "Wow!"

In its spanking new facility in WCE, which sprawls over 6.3 hectares, CMII is set to produce the future HH44 and HH52 models. The HH44 has already bagged the "Boat of the Year" award for 2024 from Sailing World Magazine, no less. This beauty is all about eco-friendly cruising with a cozy, livable design. On the other hand, the HH52 is all about those sleek, powerful lines and superior performance. These models feature hybrid technology—think parallel electric/diesel engines, cabin-top solar arrays, and hydro-regeneration while sailing. It's like the Tesla of yachts!

And guess what? This operation has already created 450 jobs and could potentially generate up to 700. We're talking specialized roles in lamination, carpentry, engineering, and electrical work. So, it's not just about luxury—it's about lives and livelihoods.

Balamban isn’t just a random choice for CMII's offshore operations. This place is dubbed the shipbuilding capital of the Philippines, and for good reason. The West Cebu Estate (WCE), powered by Aboitiz Group affiliates that provide essential services like power, water, and construction, is a hotspot for diverse businesses. We're talking automotive, electronics, manufacturing, and logistics.

So, CMII moving in isn't just a win for them—it's a massive boost for WCE’s role in driving economic prosperity. It’s like Balamban is leveling up, ready to take on the future with open arms. And this is just the beginning.

Arthur Wang, the big boss at CMII, couldn’t be more stoked about partnering with Aboitiz InfraCapital Economic Estates. He said, “The quality of Filipino skilled workers at WCE surpassed our expectations, offering a superior alternative to our operations in China.” High praise, indeed!

He also mentioned how the Aboitiz brand made the whole negotiation process smooth and efficient, thanks to their reputation for excellence and exceptional service. Wang is confident that WCE’s top-tier services, like power and water management, perfectly align with CMII’s operational needs. This isn't just a partnership; it's a recipe for future growth.

Rafael Fernandez de Mesa, the head honcho at AIC Economic Estates, echoed Wang’s sentiments. He said, “The growing operations of CMII within WCE is a testament to the confidence industry leaders have in our capabilities.” Basically, WCE is the place to be if you're in the maritime industry.

WCE isn’t stopping anytime soon. They're in the middle of a 39-hectare industrial expansion and are planning a 3.3-hectare central business district. These projects are set to create a whopping 14,000 new jobs! Imagine the flurry of activity in commercial centers, housing, and transportation. It’s like a mini-city within a city.

This ongoing expansion, coupled with strong infrastructure and a track record spanning three decades, makes WCE a strategic goldmine for businesses aiming for sustainable growth.

So there you have it. CMII's move to Cebu is more than just a business decision—it's a game-changer. With innovative, eco-friendly yachts rolling out of WCE, and a tidal wave of job opportunities, Cebu is poised to become a focal point in the maritime world.

This partnership is a win-win, elevating both CMII and the local community. As WCE continues to expand, the future looks incredibly bright for Cebu, Balamban, and everyone involved.

Here’s to smooth sailing ahead!
