When you think of construction, you probably picture cranes, scaffolding, and the hustle and bustle of new buildings going up. But there's an unsung hero in the construction world that's equally vital: industrial maintenance. Enter Aboitiz Construction, the official construction arm of the Aboitiz Group. This powerhouse is making waves with its impressive Industrial Maintenance segment. Launched just last year, this venture has already chalked up some serious wins. From fixing airports to maintaining water pipelines, Aboitiz Construction's Industrial Maintenance team is proving that they're not just about building—they're about keeping things running smoothly, too.

Let's start with the basics. Industrial maintenance might sound like a snooze fest, but it's anything but. It's all about ensuring that industrial facilities—think power plants, airports, and factories—are in tip-top shape. Aboitiz Construction has jumped into this arena with both feet, and the results are nothing short of amazing.

Since the kick-off of its Industrial Maintenance segment, Aboitiz Construction has tackled several high-profile projects. For instance, they completed waterproofing works for Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 1 and fixed the sootblower lance tube for GN Power Dinginin (GNPD) in Mariveles, Bataan. Not to mention, they've bagged a five-year contract for shutdown works with Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation and a three-year scaffolding contract with Aboitiz Power Corporation’s Therma Visayas, Inc., and Therma South, Inc.

Aboitiz Construction isn’t just stopping at one-off projects; they’re in it for the long haul. Their waterproofing project at MCIA, in collaboration with GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation, was a smashing success. In fact, MCIA was so impressed that they awarded Aboitiz Construction another waterproofing project for UTB Terminal 2. Talk about trust!

And it doesn’t end there. GNPD tapped Aboitiz Construction for design and engineering services for its power plant in Bataan. Plus, they’re working on a massive project with Cemex Holdings Philippines (K4 Project) in Antipolo City, Rizal. This involves commissioning a new cement line, which is no small feat.

You can't talk about Aboitiz Construction without mentioning their rock-solid commitment to safety. Their project site recently hit a major milestone: 10 million safe man-hours during maintenance works for an industrial plant in Surigao del Norte. Achieving this while adhering to the 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System is no small achievement. It’s clear that safety isn’t just a buzzword for Aboitiz Construction; it's a way of life.

Their preventive maintenance works for Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. involved maintaining 45 kilometers of treated water pipelines and related infrastructure. This project was executed with meticulous attention to safety, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and efficiently.

The future looks bright for Aboitiz Construction. In March, they signed a new maintenance project contract with Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. in Davao City. This contract, set to be completed in three years, involves maintaining Apo Agua’s water treatment plant that handles a whopping 300 million liters daily. Ensuring continuous water supply and optimizing operations isn’t just a job; it’s a mission.

In June 2024, Aboitiz Construction snagged a one-year maintenance contract for power barges with AboitizPower’s Therma Mobile Inc. in Navotas. But wait, there's more! They also secured a three-year maintenance contract for AP Renewables, Inc.’s Makban and Tiwi Geothermal Power Plants, with work set to commence in September 2024.

“Our commitment to quality and safety has been a cornerstone of our approach, and it is evident in the growing expertise and recognition we are receiving in the maintenance sector,” said Aboitiz Construction Executive Director Antonio Peñalver.

Behind every successful project is a team of skilled professionals. Aboitiz Construction is expanding its team, bringing on board experts equipped to meet the diverse needs of various industries. Whether it’s energy, power, infrastructure, or manufacturing, this team is ready to deliver tailored maintenance solutions that help businesses thrive.

Their strong commitment to safety is central to their success. Aboitiz Construction adheres to stringent safety protocols and standards, ensuring that all maintenance activities are conducted with the highest regard for the well-being of its employees and the integrity of its projects.

Aboitiz Construction’s Industrial Maintenance segment is not just growing; it’s flourishing. Their achievements stand as a testament to their expertise, reliability, and steadfast commitment to safety and excellence. As they continue to expand their capabilities and take on new challenges, one thing is clear: they’re not just building structures; they're building the future.

So, next time you hear about Aboitiz Construction, remember it's not just about new buildings and big projects. It's also about the crucial, behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly. And with their Industrial Maintenance segment, they're proving that they're masters of both.
