Hey there, fellow travelers and aviation enthusiasts! Buckle up because we’re about to embark on a thrilling journey through the skies of the Philippines, where Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) is making waves. The infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group is on a roll, and they just got the green light to upgrade, operate, and maintain the Bohol-Panglao International Airport. With plans set to take off starting in 2025, let’s dive into this exciting development that’s set to skyrocket tourism and connectivity in the Visayas region.

First things first, let's talk about what this means for Bohol-Panglao International Airport. As the ninth-busiest gateway in the Philippines, it's about to get a major facelift. Aboitiz InfraCapital received the notice of award (NOA) on November 18, 2024, from the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. This marks AIC’s second airport public-private partnership (PPP) project this year, following the Laguindingan International Airport.

So, what's in store for Bohol-Panglao? The proposed P4.53 billion project will expand the passenger terminal building and install essential equipment, modernizing both airside and landside facilities over a 30-year concession period. It's not just a facelift; it's a transformation that aims to boost the airport's capacity from 2 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 2.5 mppa within the first couple of years. By 2030, the goal is to further increase capacity to 3.9 mppa. This spells more flights, more tourists, and more opportunities for the local community.

Aboitiz InfraCapital's President and CEO, Cosette V. Canilao, is leading the charge with a clear vision. She’s not just talking about upgrading facilities; she’s focused on creating world-class infrastructure that drives progress. According to her, this project isn't just about bricks and mortar; it's about enhancing economic opportunities, boosting tourism, and improving connectivity in the Visayas region. It's about making the Philippines a prime destination on the global map.

For AIC, this expansion is part of a broader strategy to develop and manage infrastructure assets that enhance connectivity across the archipelago. Leveraging its expertise in infrastructure and technology, AIC is committed to driving sustainable growth in the aviation sector. And with the Aboitiz Group's roots firmly planted in the Visayas, this project is a homecoming of sorts, further solidifying their position as a key player in the Philippine aviation scene.

Aboitiz InfraCapital is no stranger to success in the aviation industry. They’ve already made significant strides with the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, and Laguindingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental. MCIA, the country’s second-busiest gateway, boasts a prestigious 4-star rating from Skytrax, a globally renowned aviation consultancy. AIC Vice President and Head of Airports Business, Rafael Aboitiz, is confident that the same level of excellence and innovation will be brought to Bohol-Panglao.

Through careful planning and strategic investments, AIC aims to enhance the passenger experience, improve operational efficiency, and elevate safety and security standards at Bohol-Panglao. By aligning with their vision of creating globally competitive airports, they’re not just elevating infrastructure; they’re elevating the entire travel experience.

At the heart of this ambitious project is a commitment to connectivity and growth. Bohol-Panglao International Airport is a gateway to one of the Philippines’ most iconic tourism destinations. With AIC at the helm, the airport is poised to elevate its stature, attracting more visitors and boosting the local economy. This expansion is more than just an infrastructure upgrade; it's a catalyst for change, unlocking new economic opportunities and fostering sustainable development in the region.

As Aboitiz InfraCapital continues to broaden its growing Airports platform, the future of Philippine aviation looks brighter than ever. With their eyes set on the skies and a commitment to excellence, AIC is not just building airports; they're building bridges to a more connected and prosperous Philippines. So, keep your eyes on the horizon, because with AIC's visionary leadership, the sky's the limit!
