In a bustling metropolis like Quezon City, the hustle and bustle of daily life can often overshadow the importance of vital statistics and civil registration. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) National Capital Region is stepping up to remind citizens of the crucial role these systems play in our society. As the 35th Civil Registration Month kicks off on February 3, a wave of informative and engaging activities is set to enlighten and empower the community.

The Significance of Civil Registration Month

The theme for this year, “Building a Resilient, Agile, and Future-fit Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System,” serves as a beacon of the PSA’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. This annual celebration, in accordance with Proclamation No. 682, not only recognizes the legacy of former President Corazon C. Aquino but also seeks to underscore the relevance of civil registration in a rapidly evolving society.

Through a series of events such as the Civil Registration Quiz Bee, poster and slogan-making contests, and specialized training sessions, the PSA aims to impart the importance of registering vital acts and events affecting personal status. These activities are not merely informational but are designed to engage, educate, and inspire citizens to take an active role in securing their legal identity and access to essential services.

Engaging the Community Through Key Activities

The kick-off of the Civil Registration Month on February 3 with an Opening Parade sets the stage for a month filled with educational and interactive events. One of the highlights, the Civil Registration Quiz Bee scheduled for February 14, promises to challenge participants' knowledge while spreading awareness about civil registration laws and practices. Additionally, the training on the Validation and Authentication of National IDs, slated for February 21, highlights the importance of accurate and secure documentation in today's digital age.

Moreover, the awarding of contest winners on February 21 recognizes and celebrates the creative efforts of individuals who showcase the significance of civil registration through art and slogans. With radio guesting sessions on February 13 and 17, the PSA extends its reach beyond physical events, ensuring that the message of civil registration resonates far and wide within the community.

Upholding Legal Identity and Essential Services

Regional Director Paciano B. Dizon, a stalwart advocate for civil registration, emphasizes the pivotal role these systems play in establishing legal identity and facilitating access to essential services. Through his leadership, the PSA strives to instill a sense of responsibility among Filipinos towards timely and accurate civil documentation. In a society where personal identity is increasingly intertwined with one's rights and privileges, the importance of these activities cannot be understated.

Refresher training sessions scheduled throughout February, focusing on laws concerning civil registration like Republic Acts 9048 and 10172, serve as a cornerstone for enhancing the skills of civil registry personnel. By imparting updated knowledge and best practices, the PSA aims to fortify the efficiency and effectiveness of the civil registration system, ensuring that it remains responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

As Quezon City embraces the 35th Civil Registration Month, it is a testament to the enduring commitment of the Philippine Statistics Authority to upholding the standards of civil registration and vital statistics. Through engaging activities, informative sessions, and community involvement, the PSA is setting the stage for a more resilient and future-fit civil registration system. Let us all join hands in acknowledging the importance of civil documentation and securing a brighter future for all citizens.
