Harnessing the Sun: First Gen and HCG’s Solar Power Adventure in Cavite

COURTESY: First Gen Corporation

Imagine powering your daily activities with the sun’s energy, reducing your carbon footprint, and saving money simultaneously. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, First Gen Corporation and HCG Philippines are making it a reality. Recently, First Gen, the Philippines' leading clean and renewable energy company, teamed up with the Philippine subsidiary of HCG, a renowned Taiwan-based global bathroom solutions provider. Their mission? To build a solar power facility at HCG’s manufacturing plant in Cavite.

This project is more than just a business deal; it’s a leap toward sustainability. By installing a 660-kilowatt (kW) solar power plant at HCG's 10-hectare facility in DasmariƱas, Cavite, the partnership aims to cut down on carbon emissions and electricity costs. This bold step not only aligns with HCG's decarbonization program but also exemplifies their commitment to environmental responsibility.

So, why solar power? For starters, it’s a clean, renewable resource that offers numerous benefits. By tapping into this abundant energy source, companies like HCG can significantly reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, thereby lowering their carbon emissions. This shift towards renewable energy is crucial for mitigating climate change and fostering a sustainable future.

First Gen, alongside its sister company Pi Energy Inc., is spearheading this transformation. With a strong portfolio of geothermal, wind, hydro, and solar energy, First Gen is well-equipped to assist HCG in achieving its decarbonization goals. Their collaboration represents a forward-thinking approach to energy consumption, showcasing how businesses can thrive while being environmentally conscious.

HCG’s journey towards sustainability didn't start with this solar project. In fact, the company has been committed to decarbonization for years. Back in 2020, HCG signed a contract with First Gen to source 850 kW of clean energy from the Bacon-Manito geothermal power plant, operated by First Gen subsidiary Energy Development Corporation. This partnership highlights how HCG strategically opts for renewable sources to meet its power needs.

Eugene Lin, HCG Philippines' senior vice president, emphasizes the company's dedication to creating efficient, cost-saving products that minimize environmental impact. Their initiatives, including the new solar power facility, are steps toward a greener future, aligning with global sustainability trends.

First Gen’s collaboration with HCG is a testament to the growing importance of renewable energy in the Philippines. As one of the country’s largest independent power producers, First Gen boasts an impressive 3,697 megawatts of installed capacity across its 33 power facilities. Their commitment to clean energy not only benefits their partners but also contributes to the nation’s energy independence.

Mark Malabanan, First Gen’s assistant vice president for solar, expressed pride in supporting HCG’s transition to a decarbonized future. By leveraging clean energy to power operations and integrating energy efficiency solutions, both companies are paving the way for a sustainable and regenerative future.

In conclusion, the partnership between First Gen and HCG is a shining example of how businesses can collaborate to achieve sustainability goals. By building a solar power facility at HCG’s manufacturing plant in Cavite, they are not only reducing emissions but also setting a precedent for other companies. As renewable energy continues to gain momentum, such initiatives will play a crucial role in shaping a cleaner, greener world.

So, next time you think about clean energy, remember the sun-soaked fields of Cavite, where First Gen and HCG are lighting the way to a sustainable future. It's not just about saving money or reducing emissions; it's about leaving a legacy of environmental stewardship that future generations can be proud of.

Sparking Change: How PetroGreen is Lighting Up Lives in Bohol

COURTESY: PetroEnergy Resources Corporation

When you think of solar power, you probably picture gleaming panels soaking up the sun’s rays and converting them into clean energy. But at PetroGreen, we’re not just about generating power; we’re about making a real difference in people’s lives. “Our goal is not just to generate power, but also to reduce poverty and generate prosperity for many Filipinos,” says FG Delfin Jr., our President & CEO. And let me tell you, we’re well on our way to achieving that with the 27MW Dagohoy Solar Power Project (DSPP) and our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, We Power HELP (Health, Education, and Livelihood Program).

First things first, let’s talk about the DSPP. Have you heard of it? If not, you’re in for a treat. The DSPP is set to become the first utility-scale solar power facility in Bohol. This isn’t just another project; it’s a game-changer. Imagine an entire community powered by the sun, reducing our carbon footprint and lighting up homes with sustainable energy. Yeah, it’s as awesome as it sounds.

The installation of the first solar panel array marks the beginning of something special. It’s like planting the first seed in a vast field of possibilities. It’s more than just panels and wires; it’s about creating a brighter future. With each panel we install, we’re not just generating power; we’re generating hope, opportunity, and a better way of life for many Filipinos.

Now, let’s shift gears and talk about We Power HELP. You know, the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative that’s making waves in Bohol. It stands for Health, Education, and Livelihood Program, and trust me, it’s as impactful as it sounds. We’re not just throwing money at problems; we’re actively working to solve them.

First up, health. We’re setting up clinics and health camps to ensure the community has access to essential medical services. No one should have to travel miles for basic healthcare, right? Next, education. We’re building schools and providing scholarships to ensure that every child in Bohol has the opportunity to learn and grow. Lastly, livelihood. We’re offering training programs to help people develop new skills and find better job opportunities. It’s a holistic approach, and we’re pretty proud of it.

Okay, here’s where it gets really good. Let’s talk about the real impact we’re having. Meet Maria, a single mother of three who used to struggle to make ends meet. Thanks to our livelihood programs, she’s now started her own small business and is able to provide for her family. Or take Juan, a young boy who dreamed of becoming a doctor. With one of our scholarships, he’s now on his way to medical school. These are the stories that keep us going.

And it’s not just individuals; entire communities are benefiting. Schools are now equipped with proper facilities, families have access to clean water, and the local economy is thriving. It’s a ripple effect, and it’s beautiful to watch.

So, what’s next for PetroGreen? Well, we’re not stopping here, that’s for sure. The DSPP is just the beginning. We’re looking to expand our initiatives and bring more solar power projects to other parts of the Philippines. Our goal is to create a sustainable future for all Filipinos, one where poverty is reduced, and prosperity is within everyone’s reach.

And remember, “Our goal is not just to generate power, but also to reduce poverty and generate prosperity for many Filipinos.” These words of PetroGreen’s President & CEO FG Delfin, Jr. are coming to fruition, and we couldn’t be more excited. Stay tuned, because the best is yet to come.

In conclusion, the DSPP and We Power HELP are not just projects; they’re a movement. A movement towards a brighter, more sustainable future. So next time you see a solar panel, think of the lives it’s changing, the dreams it’s powering, and the future it’s creating. Because at PetroGreen, we’re not just generating power; we’re generating hope, one panel at a time.
