Citicore's Journey to IPO: A Milestone for the Philippine Renewable Energy Sector

In an unprecedented move, Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) has received a significant nod from the Philippine Stock Exchange, Inc. (PSE). The PSE, in its Notice of Approval (NOA) dated 29 January 2024, gave the green light for CREC's highly anticipated listing via an Initial Public Offering (IPO). A massive 10,042,857,143 common shares of CREC are set to be on the market, marking a significant stride in CREC's growth journey.

The NOA doesn't just present a rubber stamp; it comes with an approved timetable for the IPO-related activities. The clock has started ticking towards the price setting date on 06 March 2024. The offer period follows, set to run from 11 March to 15 March 2024. The climax of this timeline is the tentative listing date and commencement of trading on the PSE on 22 March 2024.

The IPO isn't just an event; it's an opportunity. The offer includes up to 2,900,000,000 primary common shares, known as Firm Shares. Additionally, an Overallotment Option of up to 435,000,000 secondary common shares is available. All these shares come at an offer price of up to Php3.88 per share, making it a tempting proposition for eager investors.

The IPO isn't just about listing and trading. The proceeds from this move are earmarked for a significant cause. CREC plans to use the fund to partially cater to its capital expenditures and pipeline development for solar energy plants and battery energy storage system (BESS). These plans align perfectly with their general corporate purposes.

CREC doesn't just promise a future; it's a green future. The company has a pipeline of renewable energy projects in the Philippines. Its goal is to add approximately 1.0GW of ready-to-build/under construction solar energy capacity each year through 2027. This aggressive growth plan underlines CREC's commitment to renewable energy.

The PSE's approval, though a significant milestone, comes with conditions. CREC's listing is subject to its compliance with all PSE-mandated conditions and requirements. The ball is now in CREC's court to ensure that it adheres to these stipulations.

CREC's journey to this point hasn't been a solo endeavor. The Securities and Exchange Commission played a significant role too. On 17 January 2024, the SEC issued the pre-effective approval for CREC’s IPO, setting the stage for the PSE's subsequent approval.

What does the future hold for CREC? With the IPO, a green future, and adherence to PSE conditions, the company looks set for a bright future. The projections are positive, and the potential for growth is immense.

The approval of CREC's listing via an IPO is a significant milestone. It signifies a green future, promising growth, and a commitment to renewable energy. It's a testament to CREC's vision and their commitment to their corporate purposes.

CREC's journey to this point has been marked by strategic planning, a commitment to renewable energy, and an aggressive growth plan. The approval of their listing via an IPO is a testament to their journey so far and a promise of what lies ahead.

Revitalizing the Lifelines: The Herculean Task of SMC’s River Cleanup in Central Luzon

Less than four months after the conclusion of their P2-billion initiative to clean the Pasig River, San Miguel Corporation's (SMC) comprehensive river rehabilitation efforts have shifted into high gear in Central Luzon. The company, in just over a year, has removed a staggering 2 million MT of silt and waste from a 25-kilometer stretch of river channels in Bulacan, setting a new standard in environmental conservation.

Initially, the cleanup efforts were concentrated around the future New Manila International Airport and upstream rivers in Obando, Bulakan, Bocaue, and Meycauayan City. These areas form part of the same catch basin, which was identified as a critical hotspot for waste and silt.

SMC has also embarked on conducting bathymetric studies at the Pampanga River, following the completion of similar studies in another catch basin in Bulacan. These studies aim to assess the depth of water across the river channels, identifying the shallow areas that restrict water flow and contribute to flooding.

Ramon S. Ang, SMC President and CEO, highlighted the urgency of these efforts, explaining that siltation and pollution have made many rivers narrow, shallow, and less capable of handling large volumes of floodwater.

Last October 2023, SMC launched its expanded river cleanup program by signing a memorandum of agreement with various government bodies and local government units, broadening the scope of their environmental efforts.

Since the completion of the Pasig and Tullahan river cleanups, communities and stakeholders have reported lesser incidents of heavy flooding. Ang noted the project's significant impact on mitigating the effects of environmental degradation.

The successful cleanup of the Tullahan and Pasig Rivers has equipped SMC with significant experience and expertise in executing such large-scale efforts. The company is fully prepared and committed to undertake this expanded cleanup.

To date, SMC has removed a total of 2,017,336 metric tons of silt and waste from the surrounding rivers of the future site of the New Manila International airport, testifying to the company's steadfast commitment to environmental rehabilitation.

Including the total output of its Pasig River cleanup, SMC’s river rehabilitation efforts have removed over 4.5 million tons of wastes from approximately 68 kilometers of river systems, setting a new benchmark in environmental conservation.

SMC is further extending its cleanup operations in Bulacan to include numerous other rivers, reinforcing its commitment to restore the ecological balance of Central Luzon's waterways.

A Groundbreaking Step Towards Sustainability

Prime Infra waste unit, marking a significant milestone in Philippine history, recently unveiled the country's first-ever automated Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). This state-of-the-art facility, initiated by Prime Integrated Waste Solutions Inc. (PWS), signifies a monumental leap towards more sustainable and efficient waste management practices in the archipelago.

The inauguration held on Monday, January 29, saw the participation of Director Steve Paradies and President and CEO Guillaume Lucci of Prime Infra, DENR Secretary Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, PWS Chair Katrina Razon, and Market Sector Lead for Waste Cara Peralta and Donato Almeda of Prime Infra. An event that will forever be etched in the annals of the nation's environmental progress.

PWS, an entity under the umbrella of Prime Infra, was established to cater to the growing need for proper waste management and resource recovery solutions in the rapidly urbanizing cities of the Philippines.

The MRF in Cebu uses cutting-edge equipment for waste segregation and storage, setting a benchmark in the waste management sector. A first in the country, this initiative is indeed groundbreaking, as pointed out by DENR Secretary Ma. Antonia "Toni" Yulo-Loyzaga.

Secretary Yulo-Loyzaga emphasized the importance of recognizing the solid waste management sector as an industry. The success of the industry hinges on the synergistic efforts of local governance, environmental management, and private investment.

The DENR Secretary also commended PWS for integrating the informal waste picker sector into the process, thereby acknowledging the “social impact of this transition in solid waste management technology”.

PWS Chair Katrina Razon reiterated that the state-of-the-art MRF embodies innovation and the company's commitment to building a regenerative future. She also highlighted the importance of responsible waste management in safeguarding our environment and the well-being of future generations.

The MRF is equipped with advanced machinery sourced from Europe and Asia, including vibrating sieves, baler systems, magnetic separators, and an air density separator. The goal is to maximize resource recovery, thereby avoiding landfill and reducing over 15,000 tons of methane emissions per annum.

As we venture into this new era of waste management, it is essential to remember that everyone has a part to play. Every individual, every organization is a steward for this new way forward in the Philippines.

The inauguration was also graced by other dignitaries, including Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama, Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado, Cebu City Councilors, DENR Undersecretary Juan Miguel Cuna, and other key members of Prime Infra.

While the inauguration of the MRF is a significant milestone, there is still much work to be done. PWS’ mission does not end with sorting, segregating, and stacking bales of waste. The ultimate goal is waste value creation, turning waste into sustainable fuels to further reduce methane emissions and provide sustainable fuels to the global market.

PWS is not stopping here. The company is looking forward to expanding operations by developing other facilities across the country, thereby contributing further to proper waste management in the Philippines.

This blog post highlights the inauguration of the Philippines' first automated Materials Recovery Facility by Prime Infra waste unit. The blog discusses the significance of this milestone, the future vision for waste management, and the potential for nationwide expansion.
