As we set foot into the new year, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has already hit the ground running, exceeding their January 2024 revenue target. Under the astute leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, the Bureau's steadfast commitment to enhancing the country's revenue collections has been clearly manifested.
Preliminary reports reveal a striking accomplishment - the Bureau generated a whopping PhP73.329 billion in revenue for the first month of 2024. This stellar performance signifies a surplus of 2.16%, amounting to PhP1.550 billion above the target collection of P71.779 billion.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that the revenue collected in 2024 exceeded the previous year’s figures by PhP2.738 billion, or 3.88%. This substantial increase reflects the Bureau's relentless pursuit of enhancing its systems and procedures.
This surge in revenue collection is largely attributed to the Bureau’s improved system of determining the customs value of imported goods, alongside strengthened border protection and concrete trade facilitation efforts.
In the wake of this success, Commissioner Rubio was quick to commend the collection districts for their significant contribution to the overall collection performance of the agency.
Undeterred by challenges, the BOC is geared up for intensified efforts in 2024, with a firm commitment to work twice as hard to ensure that they not only meet but exceed their year-end revenue target.
This initial success in revenue collection sets a positive precedent for the year ahead, clearly showcasing the dedication of the BOC in contributing to the economic prosperity of our nation.
This achievement underscores the entire Bureau’s steadfast commitment for excellence and fiscal responsibility, strategically aligned with the Bagong Pilipinas campaign of His Excellency, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
With a successful start to 2024, the Bureau of Customs has proven its determination and commitment to the country's economic prosperity. We look forward to witnessing more such achievements and milestones in the months to come.
As we step further into 2024, we anticipate seeing the Bureau of Customs continue to exceed expectations, setting new records and strengthening our nation's economy.
