Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1, welcomes 2024 with a surge of positivity as the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 project nears the finish line.
As of January, this much-anticipated project has achieved a remarkable overall progress of 97%. This major breakthrough is clear evidence of the tenacity and commitment of the LRMC team and their contractors, all working in unison with the shared vision of connecting countless residents in the south of Metro Manila and adjacent provinces.
Juan F. Alfonso, LRMC’s President and CEO, expressed his optimism about the project’s progress. The significant milestone reached showcases the perseverance and dedication of their team and contractors, who have collaborated to bring this project to life.
Architectural works and finishes at the LRT-1 Dr. Santos Station are progressing rapidly to ensure an on-schedule and seamless opening. Five new stations are fast approaching completion, with the Redemptorist Station at 93.3%, MIA Station at 93.5%, Asia World Station at 83%, Ninoy Aquino Station at 88%, and Dr. Santos Station at 94.1%.
Of particular note, the Dr. Santos Station has completed staircase and louver installation. At the MIA Station, ceiling works have been finalized, and secondary steelwork is currently underway. In addition, drainage works have commenced at the Redemptorist Station.
System works are advancing efficiently alongside construction. Telecom installation activities have been completed at both Dr. Santos and Redemptorist stations, and similar work has begun at MIA and Asia World stations.
Beyond the physical construction, LRMC is actively conducting test runs of various generations of LRT-1 trains. This guarantees their compatibility and readiness for operations once the extension is live.
Upon completion, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 will extend the existing line by 6.2km. This first phase will connect Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Paranaque City. This extension is projected to drastically reduce travel time and cater to up to 600,000 passengers daily.
According to LRMC President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project is set to significantly boost the nation’s economic growth and development. By improving connectivity, this important infrastructure project will not just bridge physical distances but also serve as a catalyst for economic activity, opening doors for businesses, trade, and commerce to thrive.
LRMC remains unwavering in its commitment to deliver the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 project on schedule and to the highest quality standards.
The company will continue to keep the public informed of its progress through regular updates. As this momentous project nears its completion, the light at the end of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 tunnel grows brighter, promising a future of improved connectivity and economic growth.
