Heroes of Hydration: Maynilad Salutes 26 Water Champions at World Water Day Awards 2024

On a day dedicated to honoring the lifeblood of our planet, Maynilad Water Services Inc., in coalition with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and National Water Resources Board (NWRB), lauded the efforts of 26 esteemed water champions at the World Water Day Philippines Awards 2024 (WWD.PH Awards). Hosted in Quezon City, this grand event celebrated those who embody the spirit of environmental preservation and water sustainability.



Maynilad’s Water Warrior Award for Advocacy Leadership was bestowed upon four distinguished entities who have shown extraordinary accomplishments in their respective fields. Quezon City Councilor Mikey Belmonte, GMA Cavite’s Water District General Manager Juliet M. Nacita, Mt. Balagbag Farmers Association of San Isidro San Jose Del Monte City, Inc., and Telus Philippines, Inc., were all recognized for their commendable efforts in promoting water sustainability and environmental responsibility.



The DENR-Environmental Management Bureau awarded the Innovation in Marine Litter Education Award to none other than Save Philippine Seas. This organization has been instrumental in developing innovative programs and educational tools targeted at marine life protection and conservation, thus earning their spot among the recognized water champions.



The Water Wise Award went to the City of Makati, Universal Robina Corporation Pampanga Plant, and URC Misamis Oriental. These recipients were celebrated for their relentless commitment to promoting water conservation, aligning perfectly with NWRB's regulatory mandate and advocacy.



SanGuilmo Bamboo Advocates Inc. was the proud recipient of the Laguna Lake Development Authority's "Kampeon ng Lawa Award". Their consistent efforts and significant contributions towards the rehabilitation of Laguna de Bay were heartily applauded.



The Local Water Utilities Administration’s "Huwarang Lingkod Tubig Award" was awarded to Hagonoy Water District as the national winner. Baliwag Water District, Metro Kalibo Water District, and Metro Kidapawan Water District emerged as the regional winners, all recognized for their role-model behavior in water conservation and environmental initiatives.



"The true champions of our planet are those who safeguard our precious water resources. Today, we celebrate these awardees and let their dedication inspire us all to act in protecting and preserving our water resources," remarked Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez in his address. 



The National Irrigation Administration's Most Outstanding Irrigators Association Award was conferred to the Bingon Farmers Irrigators, Association, Inc., Triple L Irrigators Association, Inc., and Bayaning Magsasaka Irrigators, Association, Inc. The Metro Pacific Water’s "Mainuswagong Ilig Award" was given to Metro Iloilo Water District.



Maynilad also recognized five exceptional women for their work in promoting greater water access and a healthier environment. DENR Secretary Antonia "Toni" Yulo-Loyzaga, MWSS Administrator Leonor "Bobby" Cleofas, Department of Finance (DOF) Usec. Catherine Fong, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna were all recipients of the prestigious "Woman Leader in Water Award".



The WWD.PH Awards served as the grand finale of the country's week-long World Water Day celebration. Since its inception in 2015, the WWD.PH Awards has acknowledged 141 individuals, institutions, and programs for their contributions towards achieving water and environmental sustainability in the country. This year's celebration continues this legacy, inspiring more individuals and organizations to play their part in preserving our planet's water resources.
